World Press Photo - Zdjęcie Roku 2002:
Eric Grigorian, Armenia/Iran. Chłopiec płaczący nad grobem swego ojca, zabitego w wyniku trzęsienia ziemi w prowincji Qazvin w Iranie, 23 czerwca ub.r.

 

Amsterdam, 14 lutego 2003 r      Jury 46 konkursu World press Photo nagrodziło mianem Zdjęcia Roku 2002 czarno-białą fotografię, której autorem jest pracujący w Los Angeles armeński fotograf Eric Grigorian, związany z agencją Polaris Images. Na zdjęciu - w otoczeniu żołnierzy i wieśniaków kopiacych groby dla ofiar trzęsienia ziemi, młody chłopiec rozpacza nad grobem, w którym chowany jest jego ojciec. Zdjęcie zostało wykonane 23 czerwca 2002 r. kiedy to trzęsienie ziemi o natężeniu 6.0 stopni dotknęło prowincję Qazvin w północno-wschodnim Iranie i pochłonęło ponad 500 ofiar.

3,913 zawodowych fotografów z 118 krajów wzięło udzieł w tegorocznym konkursie. Nadesłano ponad 53 tys. zdjęć - ilość rekordowa w historii World press Photo. Warto zwrócić uwagę, że 69% prac przedtawiono w formie cyfrowej.
